I have been clicking on "Follow' on a lot of you all's names, just because. I'm not a stalker, I swear!

I have no idea the outcome, or value of me following you. I just like seeing blue check marks by peoples names.

I used to wonder why the Americans didn't call the R5 "la car" to coincide with its gender back home.

This leads me on to wonder why it's "la R5" and its successors but when you make it into a little SUV it becomes "le Captur".

So what happens when you follow someone? I imagine they are no longer in the gray, but does it do anything to you, such as spam your notifications every time they do something?

I'll be happy to start following worthy souls as long as my Kinja experience doesn't change, but nobody seems to want to give a clear explanation about how it all works.

Following someone only ungreys them only if you are followed by Jalopnik yourself (some like me thought if we were posting in colour on Jalopnik that we must be followed by them - turns out if you're followed by Oppo you get the posting rights but not ungreying). Following people means you get to view their posts in a section of your own Kinja so it's a way of creating a rule to show you posts you are likely to enjoy. Otherwise it doesn't affect the site browsing
